Getting started

  1. Download Option from the Mac App Store and open it. A short welcome tour shows you around, and lets you try every Option Pro feature for real.
  2. Hold ⌥ and tap ⇥. Keep holding ⌥ and tap ⇥ again to move along; add ⇧ to go back.
  3. Let go to switch. A quick tap takes you straight back to the last app you used.

See every shortcut on the keyboard shortcuts guide.

Troubleshooting

⌥⇥ doesn’t open the switcher

Another app or your keyboard layout may use ⌥⇥. Open Option’s Settings from the menu bar and choose another shortcut — or use Restore to go back to ⌥⇥. On macOS 15.0 and 15.1, shortcuts that use only ⌥ (or ⌥⇧) don’t work for App Store apps; Option explains this and offers ⌃⌥⇥ with one click. macOS 15.2 and later work normally.

Switching to one window of an app

Option switches between apps and brings all of an app’s windows forward, like ⌘⇥. To move between the windows of the app you’re in, use macOS’s ⌘`.

An app has no windows when I switch to it

If an app has no windows on the current Space, Option asks macOS to reopen it — exactly what clicking its icon in the Dock does. Most apps restore a minimized window; some open a new one.

An app is missing from the switcher

Option lists the same apps as ⌘⇥: apps with a Dock icon. Menu-bar-only apps aren’t listed. Hidden apps are included if you turn that on in Settings. With Option Pro’s This display only, apps without windows on the display you’re using are left out.

Restoring Option Pro on another Mac

Sign in to the Mac App Store with the same Apple Account, open Option’s Settings › Option Pro and choose Restore Purchases.
